Length of contract: 1 year inclusive of 3 months probationary period with possibility of renewal


About Us

IMPA-NU-RO is a Kinyarwanda word that translates as “good advice” or “guidance.” Impanuro Girls Initiative (IGI) is a young women-led national non-governmental organization legally registered and authorized to operate in Rwanda. As a nonprofit organization, IGI fosters women empowerment and builds girls’ agency with registration number N° 763/RGB/NGO/LP/11/2021 issued by the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB).

The founder of the organization was determined to address teenage pregnancy issues resulting from poor or no access to Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) information and services, among others.

Job Summary

The Communications and Development Lead will provide ideas about development, create content, manage social media relations, and ensure consistent messaging across platforms. The role will utilize traditional and digital media channels to cultivate a strong multigenerational base of supporters, volunteers, donors, community partners, and activists for the organization. The position will work closely with both the Programs Coordinator and the Executive Director.


Key Responsibilities

Communications – Powerful Storytelling (50%)

  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan to tell IGI’s story.
  • Collect and elevate rightsholder stories and facilitate rightsholder-driven storytelling across all media channels.
  • Own content for newsletters, social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube), website, print materials, video, and media.
  • Manage content and design of WordPress website.
  • Design graphic materials for print and web using Canva and Adobe Suite.
  • Monitor analytics for all channels and adjust strategy as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to write and design the annual report and other publications.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to create materials for fundraising campaigns.
  • Pitch stories and manage relationships with news media and other third-party storytellers.
  • Manage contractors for photography and video production.

Donor and Community Engagement – Base Building (25%)

  • Lead community education initiatives to spread IGI’s values.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers to support program needs.
  • Support the Executive Director to increase donor base and keep donors engaged.
  • Support planning of fundraisers and community events.
  • Develop toolkits and train Board, staff, and community members to be ambassadors for the organization.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with community partners, donors, volunteers, and supporters.
  • Represent IGI at meetings and events as needed.
  • Support management of volunteer and donor database.
  • Maintain a structure for gathering community input and feedback to integrate into IGI’s work.

Program Collaboration – Digital Campaigns (25%)

  • Collaborate with program team to mobilize community members through online campaigns.
  • Coordinate with program staff and rightsholder leaders to develop strategic narratives.
  • Support program team with outreach needs for rightsholder programs.
  • Work with program team to develop educational programs.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field with at least 3 years of experience.
  2. Alternatively, candidates without a degree in the specified fields may apply if they have at least 5 years of professional experience in communications.
  3. Proficient in Canva for creating visually appealing designs and layouts.
  4. Attention to detail, especially when handling content creation and editing.
  5. Knowledge of video editing, including adding subtitles.
  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English is required, proficiency in French is an added advantage.
  7. Familiarity with social media platforms, their dynamics, and tools for analytics and engagement.
  8. Creative thinking, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Must be a youth with a passion for innovative communication strategies and development.
